Mumbai, Feb 11: On the third day of deposition via video conferencing by Mumbai court, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative David Coleman Headley denied Yakub Abdul Razak Memon’s role in the 26/11 terrorists attacks on Thursday. Though he accepted of knowing the 1993 serial bomber since 2003 who was incharge of LeT’s sea operations.
With important revealing facts being unearthed by Headley, accused of doing surveys and collecting data for the 26/11 Mumbai attacks for LeT, the latest information has somewhat led to shape the investigation in a different direction altogether. On being questioned by Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam on his association with Memon, he said that Memon was not involved in either planning or execution of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Headley said, “I know Mohd Yakub who was the in charge of LeT’s sea operations. I was introduced to him in 2003. I don’t know Mohd. He said, “I discussed about site for landing boat carrying attackers, with some of members of LeT’s naval wing prior to 26/11 attacks.”
Being sentenced for 35 years by the United States district court in 2013 on the charges of involvement of terrorist activity, Headley has revealed important facts that have been welcomed by the Indian court and the government. Though there is still uncertainty on how much of the truth he is speaking. The United States authorities have agreed to co-operate with the Indian authorities in the best way possible and there is also a possibility that he can be handed over to India after the deposition.
