New Delhi, August 19: Narendra Modi-led Centre on Sunday strongly dismissed reports of David Headley’s half-brother, Daniel Gilani, attending the funeral ceremony of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, held in the national capital on Friday. The government also refuted reports of Gilani attending courtesy meeting between Pakistan’s interim Minister of Law and Information, Syed Ali Zafar and External Affairs Minister (EAM), Sushma Swaraj.
Notably, the denial came after reports emerged that Gilani attended the funeral of Vajpayee on August 17, as part of the Pakistan delegation.
“He (Gilani) did not go to funeral venue. He (Gilani) did not attend courtesy meeting of Caretaker Law Minister with EAM,” ANI quoted sources as saying.
The government further informed that Gilani was issued visa after checking blacklist, adding, there are no reports of his links to terrorism.
According to the sources, Gilani is a Pakistan civil servant and director to the Caretaker Law Minister. “Daniel has publicly dissociated himself from David Headly,” sources added. Headley, a convict in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack in 2008, is considered as one of the main plotters of the attack.
