New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident, just a day ahead of Donald Trump‘s visit to Ahmedabad, a makeshift VVIP entry gate which was erected outside the newly built cricket stadium in Motera area, collapsed on Sunday morning. Authorities further added that sometime later another portion of the makeshift entry gate, which was made up of welded steel rods and covered in flex banners, also collapsed due to the windy weather. Also Read - L&T to build world's biggest cricket stadium at Motera
However, as per reports, no one was injured in both the incidents and the work was underway to put the structures back in place.
“The (VVIP) entry gate collapsed when fabrication work was going on. It was not a major incident. No one was injured in the incident,” Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Ajay Tomar, told PTI.
On February 24, President Trump and PM Narendra Modi will take part in a roadshow in Ahmedabad on Monday and later address the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera area. In the ‘Namaste Trump’ event, over one lakh people are expected to attend.
World’s largest stadium with a capacity to accommodate 1.10 lakh spectators, it has already received ‘Building Use’ permission from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The old stadium, which had a seating capacity of 49,000 spectators, was demolished to create the new one. The new stadium will be inaugurated by Trump on February 24.
