New Delhi, July 29: Former Bhartiya Janata Party leader, Dayashankar Singh who was expelled from the party after he made derogatory remarks about Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Mayawati has been sent into judicial custody for 14 days on Friday. After a joint operation between Bihar police and Uttar Pradesh Police, he was nabbed by the police in Buxar, Bihar earlier in the day.
Singh was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh and then sent to 14 days in judicial custody. “UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should take action against the people who have insulted my family,” Singh said. “I dare Akhilesh Yadav to take action against Naseemuddin Siddiqui.” Speaking to the press, Singh’s lawyer said that the hearing for his bail is scheduled for Saturday.

Dayashankar Singh served as vice-president of BJP’s UP unit but was removed from his post after he compared Mayawati to a prostitute. His comments caused a major uproar by the BSP and other political parties. BSP launched protests across the state and demanded his arrest. The ruling party in the centre, BJP was already facing heat from the opposition after the Una incident where Dalit boys were publicly flogged.
Mayawati, a Dalit leader mobilised her party workers and senior leaders for the protests. Dayashankar, and later the BJP accused BSP party workers of harassing and intimidating Singh’s family during the protest. Singh’s wife even filed an FIR against Mayawati and other senior leaders.
