New Delhi, Feb 9: In a relief for Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed ex-cricketer and suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad’s plea seeking court-monitored SIT or CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). Rejecting the pleas, the High Court said CBI has already started a preliminary enquiry and needs to be given time, hence plea is premature. The court also said that SIT probe can only be ordered in rarest of rare cases and not because some Union minister is said to be allegedly involved.
Kirti Azad filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court, demanding the appointment of an independent administrator and a time-bound SIT probe against the alleged financial impropriety in DDCA. The plea, which was also filed by Bishen Singh Bedi, Maninder Singh, Dronacharya awardee cricket coach Gurcharan Singh and two others, sought direction to the central government to cancel the privileges like subsidised land that have been extended to DDCA and to ensure that no loss is caused to exchequer. BJP has suspended Azad for his attack on Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and served him a show cause notice, asking why he should not be expelled. The plea sought direction for an investigation by a SIT or a court-monitored investigation by CBI to look into the criminal offence committed by DDCA officials.
