New Delhi, May 5: As the Supreme Court upheld the Delhi High Court’s order of death sentence to the four convicts in the brutal Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case, the father of the victim hailed the decision, terming it as a victory for his family. “I am very happy with the judgement,” he was quoted as saying.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Badri Singh, the father of Nirbhaya, said that he is satisfied that the justice has been delivered. On the other hand, Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi, asserted that the Supreme Court finally listened to their pain while expressing happiness on the deliverance of the justice to Nirbhaya by the Apex court.
Earlier in the day, the couple had expressed confidence that the judgement of the Delhi High Court will be upheld by the Supreme Court. “I am sure that the apex court, through its ruling, will give justice to my daughter. This will set an example for the world,” she had said. Nirbhaya’s father was sure of the fact that the apex court will award death sentence to the convicts. “They will be awarded death sentence. The 23-year-old paramedic was brutally assaulted and gangraped by six persons in a moving bus in south Delhi and thrown out of the vehicle with her male friend on the night of December 16, 2012. She succumbed to her injuries and died at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on December 29, 2012.
