New Delhi, Oct 16: The Ministry of Defence(MoD) is likely to get three new agencies to tackle growing challenges in the fields of the cyber world, space and special operations. Their formation was announced by the MoD in July. The proposal is pending with the government. A source told the Indian Express that the ministry was awaiting responses from the law ministry and other allied ministries. The approvals for the formation of Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Space Agency and a Special Operations Division are expected within a couple of months, a report in the national daily said. Similar agencies will be raised in Air Force and Navy. These divisions will be headed by officers of the rank of Major General. Reports further said that the cyber and space agencies will have their headquarters in Delhi. Special Operations Division may have its office outside Delhi. The SOD will have officers of the special forces of the Army, Navy and IAF– they will be trained and equipped specialised operations. This division– a confluence of Army’s Special Forces, Navy’s Marine Commandos, IAF’s Garud Commandos– will be stationed at a place that has training facilities. The Defence Cyber Agency will employ over 1,000 personnel, and it will work in close tandem with the National Cyber Security Advisor. The Defence Space Agency will recruit 200 personnel who will coordinate with ISRO and DRDO.
