New Delhi, Aug 21: A 21-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in her house in northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur while video-chatting with her male friend on WhatsApp, said police on Monday. Shivani Sharma, a student pursuing her Company Secretary (CS) course, committed suicide after an argument with her friend. Initially, the friend did not take Sharma’s suicide threats seriously. However, when the video chat was still on, Sharma began tying the noose. The friend reportedly tried to stop the woman from hanging herself. Then he informed her father. Police stated that the woman used a sash to hang herself from a ceiling fan at her house on Saturday night in New Usmanpur area. Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Thakur said, “While she was taking the extreme step, her friend called up her father who has a shop on the ground floor of the house. After the woman was rushed to a hospital, the doctors declared her as brought dead. A case has been registered against the man for abetment of suicide. DCP Thakur added, “We have seized her mobile phone and sent it for forensic analysis to extract the video footage of the incident. In a similar incident on June 14, 18-year-old Karan hanged himself from a ceiling fan in Kota while speaking with his father who was in Barmar. Karan, who was an aspiring doctor, was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
