New Delhi: A 45-year-old married woman was allegedly killed by a man after she rejected his marriage proposal in Nangloi district of western Delhi, said police on Thursday. The man identified as Shyam Yadav is a native of Pansalwa in Madhubani district of Bihar. He allegedly fell in love with co-worker Madhuri at a shoe factory. When he proposed her, Madhuri expressed her disinterest as she was already married, said police.

Further, Madhuri quit the job when she realised that Yadav was desperate to marry her. The matter reached its peak after Yadav began stalking the woman. He finally stabbed her to death on Wednesday. Soon police were informed of the incident and the officials of Nangloi police station rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the woman was admitted to a nearby hospital where she was declared as brought dead, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju Kuruvilla.

The woman’s daughter alleged that the man killed her mother in front of her, stated the police. A case was registered against Shyam based on the girl’s statement. Further investigation on the case is underway, said police.

The arrest was made after the police received a tip-off that the accused would come at Shiv Bux Park in Nangloi. Subsequently, he was apprehended from the spot and the knife used in the crime was recovered at his instance, he added. The accused was planning to leave Delhi after killing the woman, the officer said.

In the month of January, a part-time maid and her minor son were arrested for allegedly murdering an elderly couple and robbing cash worth Rs 9 lakh and some gold jewellery at the residence of the couple in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony, police said.

In yet another incident on January 30, a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl on the terrace of a house in east Delhi. He was booked in a rape case under the POCSO Act.
