New Delhi: A 68-year-old woman passed away on Friday in Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital due to coronavirus, thus becoming the second person in the country to have died due to the deadly infection. Also Read - Coronavirus: Remainder of I-League Season to be Played Behind Closed Doors



With her death, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 82, the Centre said.



According to reports, the woman was the sixth case of coronavirus to be reported from the capital. She is also reported to have several other conditions including high blood pressure and diabetes.

The news of her death comes just a day after it was confirmed that the death of a 76-year-old man from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi, was due to coronavirus. The man, who had returned to India from Saudi Arabia last month, had died on Tuesday night.

The development came on a day the total number of confirmed cases in the country rose from 73 on Thursday, crossing the 80-mark. Among other confirmed cases of coronavirus to be reported today was that of a Google employee in Bengaluru and a Delhi-based man, who was working in a leather-manufacturing factory in Noida. In both cases, the respective employees of the two patients have been quarantined.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had declared coronavirus a ‘pandemic.’
