Delhi Assembly Election 2025: BJP fields Parvesh Verma against Arvind Kejriwal, Ramesh Bidhuri to take on Atishi; Check BJP’s 1st list
BJP has named Parvesh Verma as its candidate for the New Delhi seat, challenging AAP's Arvind Kejriwal in the 2025 Assembly elections.
New Delhi:With the Delhi Assembly elections approaching in February, preparations are in full swing. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is optimistic about retaining power, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is determined to reclaim control after a long gap. While the elections are expected to take place in February 2025, the Election Commission of India has yet to confirm the official dates.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of 29 candidates, with former Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Verma set to contest from the New Delhi assembly seat against AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal. This high-profile battle will also feature Congress’s Sandip Dixit, making it a three-cornered contest.
Pravesh Verma currently represents West Delhi in the Lok Sabha, and has been tasked with strengthening the BJP’s position in the capital. His decision to challenge Kejriwal in one of the city’s most high-profile constituencies is a clear indication of the BJP’s strategy to make a strong impact.
Additionally, BJP has also nominated prominent candidates like Dushyant Gautam, the party’s national general secretary, from Karol Bagh, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden. The list also features Kailash Gehlot from Bijwasan and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar.
Verma’s political roots run deep, being the son of Sahib Singh Verma, a former senior BJP leader and Delhi’s Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998. Parvesh Verma has previously served in the Delhi Assembly, winning the Mehrauli seat in the 2013 elections, and later secured a seat in the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which secured a commanding victory in the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections with 62 out of 70 seats, continues to be a strong contender as the 2025 elections draw near.
