Delhi, December 18: Even as the city debates about whether chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s odd even formula, to battle pollution woes will work or not, a 13-year-old has quietly come up with his own solution. Delhi boy Akshat Mittal, has come up with a novel idea of a website to provide carpooling solutions to the city’s residents, which will in turn promote lesser vehicles on the city’s roads and hence, less pollution. The class 8 student, who studies in Amity International School, Noida, came up with the website, which if popularised, will facilitate the implementation of the odd even formula in a better way.
The website offers the commuters information about the kind of vehicles plying on the city roads on a particular day of the week. It lets you enter your information and then helps you find people, who have the same destination as yours, so that you can choose people to hitch a ride with. The site even lets you enter preferences of your commute partner, like their gender and age. In return, the site will ask for your details like your vehicle registration number, type of vehicle and other personal details. However, it will cater to people who don’t have cars also. Mittal, who is part of the TiE Delhi-NCR Young Entrepreneur program (TYE) explained, “The system runs on complex planning and matching algorithms, based on choice of age/gender/profession among others.” Mittal said that his site was different from other carpooling solution apps/websites, in that it links people based on their preferences and the odd even numbers of vehicles.
“Most of the car pooling apps today wants to provide convenience to the commuters in the form of linking people wanting to share a ride. However, they have no considerations regarding the odd and even number, which will be the case from January 1, 2016. Currently, all other apps are aimed at citizens looking to lessen the burden of the cost of fuel and the ones looking at a convenient mode of transport,” Mittal told Economic Times.
