New Delhi: A 38-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly making obscene gestures in front of a woman advocate on Friday. According to the police, the lawyer had boarded the cab from Gurgaon for Delhi High Court, when the driver made obscene gestures, following which she called the police and lodged a written complaint. Later, a case under sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC was registered at Tilak Marg police station. In another incident which came to light earlier in the day, a female commuter travelling in the Delhi Metro was harassed by a man after he reportedly flashed his privates to her on Wednesday evening.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim, who is a resident of Gurugram, had claimed that she was sitting inside the train while returning home when she first saw a man staring at her and committing the shameful act.
Later she took the incident to micro-blogging site Twitter and narrated the entire episode in a series of tweets. She said that she tried to reach out to the police personnel and women’s helpline but was diverted to different stations every time.
