New Delhi: A cab driver of private school was arrested for allegedly assaulting a minor girl in New Delhi, police said on Tuesday. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and arrested from his house in Trilokpuri.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Devender Arya said that accused, identified as Monu, took the six-year-old child to a deserted place on Thursday and sexually assaulted her. He warned her against disclosing the crime to her parents and dropped her some meters away from her residence.
When the girl reached home she informed her parents. Parents filed a complaint the next day with the school management. Monu called up her father and threatened him to take back his complaint, the DCP added.
When there was no action taken by the school management, the parents filed a police complaint on Monday. Police immediately swung into action and arrested accused Monu.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that the country will not tolerate those committing rape and the law passed by Parliament in this regard will play an effective role in curbing crimes against women and girls.
Recently, special courts had awarded stringent punishment and even the death sentence to convicts for raping minors.
