The air quality of the national capital keeps getting worse. It was in the ‘very poor’ category on Friday morning, i.e., December 5, when the air quality index (AQI) increased to 324. Now, the challenge has increased as the region is likely to witness cold waves. The videos of dirty filters in air purifiers are already making rounds on social media, which have made everyone living in and out of Delhi concerned. Now, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has put the air back in the ‘very poor’ category.

PTI shared a video on X with the caption, “Morning drone visuals from the Signature Bridge area show the national capital wrapped in a thin blanket of haze, as Delhi-NCR wakes up to yet another day of poor air quality,” signalling at Delhi’s AQI today.

The most affected areas with ‘very poor’ air quality in the morning hours were Chandni Chowk with an air quality index of 352, Rohini with 363, and several others mentioned below.

On the other hand, locations that suffered from poor air quality were IIT Delhi with an air quality index of 298, IITM-Lodhi Road with 290, Aya Nagar with 291, IGI Airport with 267, and multiple others.

What’s the prediction of IDM?

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday, i.e., December 5, gave a yellow alert. It signals for a cold wave in Delhi today. As per IMD, the range of temperature is most likely to remain between 4 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius.

The Air Quality Early Warning has also predicted that on Friday night, some secluded places in the capital region may witness cold and fog waves. It has also stated that air quality is most likely to remain poor for the upcoming days.

What’s the effect of pollution and cold wave in Delhi?

The deteriorating air quality, along with cold waves, poses a great threat to the health of people. It may cause skin ailments, viral fever, colds, and coughs. It’s highly advised to wear N-95 respirator masks to ensure precautionary measures.
