New Delhi: Rohit Tomar, the son of a Delhi Police Sub-Inspector who was seen beating a woman in a viral video in Tilak Nagar area of national capital was arrested on Friday. Notably, Tomar was taken into custody hours after Home Minister Rajnath Singh asked Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take strict action against him.
“A video of a man thrashing a woman ( in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar) has come to my notice. I have spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner and have told him to take relevant action,” Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.
Tomar was sent to one day police remand by Court, news agency ANI reported.
In the video, which is believed to shot on September 2, the accused (Tomar) was seen dragging the woman around by her hair, throwing her to the ground, kicking her, slapping her and using his knees and elbows to hit her.
Subsequently, the woman approached the police on Thursday and a case was registered at Tilak Nagar police station in west Delhi against Tomar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Monika Bhardwaj said.
“A stern action has been taken against the accused Tomar on the charges of assaulting a woman with intent to outrage her modesty and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code,” she added.
