New Delhi, August 12: Delhi’s Patiala House rejects anticipatory bail plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Surinder Singh. An FIR has been registered with the Delhi Police against the AAP MLA for allegedly beating and abusing civic workers along with passing casteist remarks against them.
Singh is accused of physically assaulting New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) workers when they were conducting an anti-encroachment drive in the city. According to police, the municipal workers were instructing a vegetable vendor to move his stall away from the nearby signal. Singh, who was co-incidentally at the spot, came out of his car and began thrashing the civic workers apart from verbally abusing them.
Sanitary inspector Ram Jivan Meena, who was heading the anti-encroachment drive accused Singh of breaching his duty and making casteist remarks against him after beating down NDMC worker Mukesh Kumar, who was working under Meena. However, the Delhi Cantonment MLA has refuted all the charges calling them malicious, with the intent to falsely implicate him. “They were harassing the vegetable vendor. We intervened and stopped them from doing so. We never beat up anyone. There were around 20 of them, why should we beat them,” added Singh, who has also served as commando.
Trouble seems to be brewing for the Surinder Singh, who is one of the renowned MLAs of AAP. This is the second case booked against him. Earlier an FIR was filed against him for allegedly submitting a fake educational certificate before the Election Commission.
