Adnan Khan, who claims to be the winner of Mr Uttarakhand dance competition, had reportedly auditioned for several reality TV shows in the past. “The four men robbed a pizza outlet of Rs 3.45 lakh on knife-point on December 11 last year. A few days later, we arrested one of his accomplices, Ram, based on a tipoff. Ram told us that he roped in Khan after planning the robbery. Adnan was a dancer who previously had no criminal background,” said deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh. A hunt was initiated for Uttam Nagar resident Khan, who frequently changed locations to evade arrest, said Singh. Khan was arrested from Dwarka Mor on Monday.

Claiming of getting film offers, Khan said he planned to visit Mumbai. “The set-up cost in Mumbai is high. To pay the rent for a big house and to save himself from the hassles of public transport, he needed nearly Rs 3 lakh to get through the first few months. His income from dance shows in Delhi and elsewhere was irregular. He was unable to save money himself as said he maintained a lavish lifestyle and had 20 girlfriends,” said another police officer.

He allegedly discussed his need for money with Ram. “Ram told Khan that he and his friends were planning to conduct a robbery at a pizza outlet and Khan could join them. They were expecting to collect a booty of Rs 10-12 lakh. However, all they managed was Rs 3.45 lakh, which left each of them with a cut of less than Rs 1 lakh,” said Singh.

Before moving to Mumbai, Khan was allegedly planning more robberies. “He also told us that dance was his passion since childhood and he started learning dance at an early age. In the years that followed, he started performing at various dance shows. People gradually started noticing his work and he started getting offers to contest in shows. He recently launched a YouTube channel on which he has posted his dancing videos,” said Singh.
