New Delhi, Mar 12: Two students died while three were left injured when their car crashed into a divider near Hudson Lane in Mukherjee Nagar on Sunday. Diksha Dadu, the 19-year-old who was allegedly driving in inebriated condition without a valid licence, was arrested, but was granted bail later.
Diksha along with her four friends – Ritesh Dahiya, Siddharth Singh, Joshita Mohanty and Rashi Sharma – was driving towards Murthal after attending a college festival in Noida. They had stopped at a pub in CP. Around 1:00 am, Diksha lost control over the speeding car at a T-point and crashed into the divider. The car turned turtle and stopped after hitting a traffic signal, said police.
Ritesh Dahiya (21) and Siddharth Singh (20), who were in the rear seat, died in the accident. Diksha and Joshita Mohanty, who was also seated in front, survived due to airbags and suffered minor injuries, while Rashi Sharma, who was seated between Dahiya and Singh, suffered a fractured collarbone. Cops pulled the students out of the wreckage after breaking the window panes of the car. Dahiya and Singh were declared dead at Sushrut Trauma Centre where all the five were taken.
A case under various IPC sections for causing death due to negligence (304A), rash and dangerous driving (279) and drunken driving has been registered against Diksha. “She did not have a valid driving licence. Her learning license also expired in October last year,” deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Aslam Khan was quoted as saying. She was granted bail on Sunday afternoon as the offence was bailable.
