The Delhi government has decided to offer a discount on challan to the traffic violators. The transport department has asked them to pay the challan in time in order to get a discount of 50% . The proposal is aimed to collect pending challan from the violators.
Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot said the discount will be given under specific sections of the Special Motors Vehicle Act. Gahlot said the proposal has been submitted to Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena for his approval. The minister said that the government wants to reduce the number of pending challans.
As per proposal, a violator will have to pay only 50 percent of the challan for traffic violations if he pays the amount within 90 days, but for the fresh violation , the time frame will be reduced to 30 days, once the proposal comes into effect.
A few violations have been excluded in the proposal. Violators who will get the discounts include rash driving, racing on street sans permission, invalid driving licence and driving uninsured vehicle.
