New Delhi, November 29: Delhi Marathon has always a special place in the hearts of Indians and the people across the globe. Africans powerhouses like from Kenya and Ethiopia have have their dominance in the marathon since couple of years, but this time Indian athletes are giving a tough challenge to them. The expectations among the Indians to beat the dominance their rivals is on a high, but all in good spirit.

Beating the previous record, this year more than 34,000 athletes have participated in the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon 2015, held on Sunday. The Half Marathon for Elite Men category started at 6.40 am which was soon followed up by Half Marathon for Elite Women at 6.50 am. As per the schedule, the marathon of 10K, 5K and 3K for the Indian athlete was flagged at 6:54 am, however, the marathon for corporates, organised by the DHL, started at 6:55 am. Amateur Marathon too was organised and it was started at 7:10 am. (ALSO READ: Jabong is official retail partner for Airtel Delhi Half Marathon)

Like last year, this year too the athletes from across the globe participated in the and record holders like Kenenisa Bekele — also the ambassador for ADHM-2015 — had motivated the participants. Though the fog had covered the capital, but it did not stop people to participate in the event. A large number of senior citizens, children, physically challenged, celebrities and Delhi Police personnel were seen running in the ADHM. Special marathon is also organised in Kolkata, which was flagged off by Kiran Bedi.


These will be followed by the Champions with Disability at 7.35am, the Senior Citizens’ Run at 8.00am and the Great Delhi Run at 9.35 am. All flag-offs will be through Gate 1 of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Gate 1 will serve as the finishing area for all categories except for the participants of the Champions with Disability and the Senior Citizens’ Run, which will conclude at Gate 2. The 10K, 5K and 3K for Indian Athletes will finish at 10, 5 and 3km points on the route respectively.

Speaking about the celebrities running in the event, Bollywood actor Rahul Bose, business tycoon Anil Ambani, Indiabulls Housing Ltd Gagan Banga were also seen running in the marathon. Indian athletes like Nitender Singh Rawat, Gopi T and Mohd Yunus also participated in the elite marathon group. Prior to the event, the government had already issued a traffic advisory for the people.
