New Delhi, Nov 03: Every day nearly three children are raped in national capital, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) revealed the shocking data on Friday. When leading daily Hindustan Times questioned a section of juvenile justice lawyers , policemen and child rights activists about the reason for the embarrassing statistics, they blamed mindset of people and consumption of pornography behind it.

Citing mindset of the people as the root cause of increasing juvenile rape incidents,  Bharati Ali, from HAQ Centre for Child Rights asserted that more efforts need to be put into reforming people and changing their mindset.

Anant Kumar Asthana, Juvenile Justice lawyer, who has dealt with many such cases earliert, said,”What separates Delhi from less urbanised or rural areas is a huge migrant population with no community participation.” Both Asthana and Ali mutually agreed that consumption of pornography by culprits is a major factor behind the sexual abuse against children

Talking to the daily, Asthana cited an example of 18-year-old accused, who regretted his deeds but admitted that pornography had left him with an urge he was unable to control.

“It is not just about nuclear families. Many victims are from families where both parents go out to leaving them under the care and protection of neighbours, who usually are not as vigilant as one’s own parents would be. This gives an opportunity to those on the prowl to assault children,” Hindustan Times quoted Asthana as saying.
