New Delhi: Speaking on the massive fire tragedy that swept through a city hotel in Karol Bagh on Tuesday morning, killing at least 17 people, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain assured strict action against the negligent party.

Among the first to reach the spot, Satyendra Jain said that most of the people died due to suffocation and that the Delhi government will bring the guilty to book.

The official Aap Aadmi Party (AAP) handle also tweeted that Satyendra Jain has ordered the district magistrate and the fire department to stringently investigate the accident.

Out of the many violations that are surfacing on part of the Arpit Palace hotel authorities, it has been found that the roof was made of fibre- in breach of building regulations by fire department.

A call about the fire was received at 4.35 am and 24 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a senior officer from the Delhi Fire Service said.

The injured have been rushed to three hospitals including the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML).

Onlookers added that the wooden panelling in the corridors of the hotel could have contributed to the fire spreading quickly.
