New Delhi: The Income Tax Department is conducting raids at 16 locations linked with Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot in Delhi and Gurugram on Wednesday in connection with a tax evasion case. The raided premises include the minister’s South Delhi residence. The searches are being conducted as part of a tax evasion probe against two construction firms linked to the minister and others, the officials said.
Gahlot is the minister for transport, law and revenue and is an Aam Admi Party (AAP) MLA from the Najafgarh Assembly Constituency. According to ANI, a search is also underway at Brisk Infrastructure and Developers Ltd & Corporate International Financial Services Ltd. This is a developing story and more details are awaited.
Earlier this year, Gahlot had been discharged by a Delhi court in a case related to alleged violation of model code of conduct during his campaign for the 2015 state assembly elections. Citing lack of evidence, the court absolved Gahlot of charges levelled against him. The Delhi Police had lodged an FIR in January 2015 which had alleged that the accused was influencing the voters with free food and had disobeyed the order by a public servant.
