New Delhi, Jun 1: A man abducted and killed his 17-year-old cousin for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. He even roped in his friends in committing the crime. The accused identified as 25-year-old Pankaj was arrested on Thursday.

The incident came to light on Tuesday when a complaint was lodged at Nand Nagri police station by victim’s, Sahil Mehra, father. Beginning the investigation, a team led by DCP (northeast) Atul Kumar and Crime Branch tracked down the abductors somewhere near Dasna. They also found that they were in touch with someone from Nand Nagri.

Following the lead, the police reached the location and caught four men. Pankaj was arrested later by another team led by ACP Subodh Goswami.

The men, during interrogation, revealed that Pankaj had lured Sahil by promising to get him a computer game. He had even dissuaded his uncle, Santram Mehra, from informing police, who later dialled the PCR on receiving the ransom call. Fearing consequences, Pankaj then asked his friends to shoot Sahil dead and dump the body in a canal at Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

The police informed that the gang, after getting an SMS from Pankaj, sedated Sahil. They then took him to a desolate place where he was shot dead. The men then tied the body and dumped it into the canal.

Pankaj got married recently and was unemployed. He plotted his cousin’s abduction to extract money from his uncle who reportedly earns well.

Meanwhile, Sahil’s body is yet to be recovered. The police have charged Pankaj and his friends under sections related to conspiring kidnap, murder and crime.
