New Delhi: A 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl on the terrace of a house in east Delhi, stated a report. The suspect, identified as Manish, had kidnapped the girl and lured her to the terrace before raping and trying to kill her, said police. Upon investigation, police found that Manish was already involved in two other rape cases in Ghazipur and Kalyanpuri. However, senior officers had no evidence to prove the allegations.

Manish, who is a resident of Shakarpur in New Delhi, found the girl walking to a nearby shop. He lured her to the Madhu Vihar house by promising to show her something. Later, when he managed to take the girl to the terrace, he raped her. A report by The Times of India stated that the victim cried for help while Manish sexually assaulted her. Later, she managed to push him aside and ran to the other end of the terrace for help. When she alerted the neighbours, Manish decided to escape from the spot. However, before he could flee from the place, the neighbours caught him and began thrashing him.

He was later handed over to the police, who booked a rape case against him under the POCSO Act.

In a similar incident in 2017, an 18-year-old girl was raped by two men and police arrested the accused. However, the victim registered a complaint against her parents last year, for allegedly taking a bribe from one of the rapists to settle the case. The parents had in fact tortured the victim and tried to convince her to withdraw the statement against her two rapists in court. The girl went to Aman Vihar police station with the bribe money and lodged a complaint against her parents.
