Delhi: Man chops off daughter's ears, claims supernatural power asked him to do so

New Delhi, June 23: A 35-year-old man in Delhi’s GTB Nagar chopped off his daughter’s ears after “hallucinations” and claimed that a supernatural power asked him to do so. The police has arrested Amrit Bahadur, who works at Urban Kebab.

“A case has been registered and the father is arrested. Child has been referred to AIIMS,” said DCP, Shahdara, Nupur Prasad.

Bahadur told the police that a ghost was whispering in his ear, directing him to make his daughter cry in pain. He told the police that the ghost asked him to donate the girl’s ear to him, else he would take her to hell with him, the Hindustan Times reported.

“He was hallucinating. He said he thrashed the girl because the ghost told him that he would kill her and take her along if he does not make her cry. He admitted that he started thrashing the girl first, but then the ghost directed him to chop off her ears. He did as directed,” a senior police officer said.

When his wife tried to intervene, he reportedly thrashed her and asked her to leave the house. He took his wife and five other children to the terrace and locked the door, a senior police officer said.

Bahadur said that the ghost was unhappy with the sacrifice so he asked for the girl’s blood from her neck. The girl’s mother alerted the neighbours who made a PCR call. Before he could slit the girl’s neck, he was caught, a senior police officer said.

The police said that Bahadur had lost his one-year-old daughter two months ago and had been disturbed since then. He has been arrested for causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon, attempt to murder and punishment for cruelty on children.
