Delhi: A 10-year-old died after being hit by a bullet during new year celebrations in Usmanpur while another minor was injured after being shot at during celebrations in Welcome area, said ANI on Tuesday. Two people were detained in connection with the 10-year-old’s accidental death.

Delhi Police issued 509 challans for drink and drive cases on Monday night. Ahead of the New Year celebrations, Delhi police had deployed around 15,000 police personnel across the national capital region to ensure that celebrations went off smoothly.

“We have deployed around 15,000 police personnel across Delhi to maintain the law and order situation on the eve of New Year to ensure that the celebrations go smoothly,” Madhur Verma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), told ANI and added that any incident of hooliganism and drunk driving will be dealt with strictly.

Women officers were deployed in areas like Khan Market, Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, University areas. Connaught Place, as well as New Delhi area which has five star hotels hosting parties, had around 24 police pickets.

Police officials all over Delhi held meetings with various pubs, clubs, lounges hosting parties asking them to ensure their guests did not leave the party drunk and driving themselves. Police officers requested them to keep drivers on call as a standby in case of any emergency.

“Bursting of crackers is only allowed from 12AM to 12:30AM. Legal action will be taken against those who violate the norm. Every police station in the Capital has an anti-cracker team. All places have been asked to close down by 1AM in order to regulate vehicular movement. Police officers across the Capital will also keep a check on drug abuse being carried out at parties,” DCP (New Delhi) and PRO Madhur Verma had said.
