Delhi pollution update: In a significant development for the national capital, GRAP 3 restrictions have been removed after days of decreased AQI levels in the region. Notably, Delhi’s air quality showed a marginal improvement on Tuesday, with the 24-hour average AQI settling in the “very poor” category, after staying above the 400 mark for three consecutive days, prompting authorities to withdraw the GRAP-3 curbs, while keeping other restrictions in place.

However, readers should note that after the GRAP 3 restrictions were removed, the GRAP 1 and 2 pollution controlling measures are still in place. Here are all the updates you need to know about the recent AQI levels in Delhi and the list of GRAP 2 measures.

Delhi pollution update: What are the GRAP 2 measures still in action?

  • Ban on Coal & Firewood: As per the GRAP 2 measures, there will be a prohibited on heating and other uses of coal and firewood.
  • Ban on diesel Generators: As per the GRAP 2 measures, diesel Generators will be banned, except for emergency/essential services (hospitals, telecom, metro, etc.)
  • Avoid dust generating construction activities.

What’s the current Delhi’s Air Quality Index?

The city’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 378, according to official data. By evening, 29 stations recorded “very poor” air quality, five “severe” and four “poor”, with Wazirpur recording the worst AQI at 414, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app.

What are the air pollution classifications as per CPCB?

According to the CPCB classification, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51 and 100 “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor” and 401 and 500 “severe”.

The capital’s three-day run of “severe” air pollution ended on Tuesday morning, when the average AQI was recorded at 395. Despite the improvement, pollution levels continued to remain high across several monitoring stations.

“While GRAP Stage-4 is being revoked, keeping in view the winter season when weather conditions may not be always favourable and in order to ensure that the AQI levels do not slip further, citizens are requested to strictly adhere to the citizen charter under GRAP Stage-1, 2 and 3,” the order said.

Delhi experienced three consecutive days of “severe” air pollution on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with the AQI going past the 400 mark.
