New Delhi, July 9: A self-styled baba and match-maker has been arrested in Delhi on charges of stalking a woman who was once a devotee of his, said media reports on Monday. The baba allegedly started harassing the woman when she didn’t respond to his advances, said a report in The Times of India. The accused, Ravi Gir ji maharaj, claimed to be a Naga baba from Haridwar, said the report. He would see his devotees at the Harihar Ashram in Ramlila Maidan, Kamla Market. Police said the complainant’s family had met the baba a few months ago to help fight a groom for her. After the family furnished the woman’s details, the baba started visiting her home. Then, he allegedly began flirting with her. On her objecting to his overtures, the man allegedly got abusive and started sending inappropriate messages on her mobile. Police registered the woman’s complaint under Section 354D (stalking), 509 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), and Section 67 of the IT Act at the Hauz Khasi police station. Earlier, police received a tip-off that the man was in Bihar and so a team was dispatched to Supaul but he had left for Delhi. He was arrested from near his ashram. Police said he would be interrogated to find out if he harassed other women as well. The complainant’s statement would also be recorded before a magistrate, said police.
