New Delhi, July 17: The national capital on Monday witnessed a sky covered with the monsoon clouds. However rainfall occurred only in patches, and similar conditions are expected throughout the week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weatherman said that rainfall is expected to bring the mercury levels to settle below the normal level. An official said, “There have been showers in various parts of the city from moderate to light rainfall. Humidity was 100 per cent with the day’s temperature at 34.1 degree Celsius, a notch below the season’s average. Also, the minimum temperature stood two notches above the season’s average at 28.8 degree Celsius. In a statement, private weather forecast agency Skymet said, “Due to increase in temperatures and availability of high humidity, thundercloud formation has been taking place in patches which are resulting in spot rains over some parts of Delhi. Rainfall in Safdarjung was recorded at 32 mm, while Palam saw 25.2mm, Lodhi Road received 30.8 mm and Ayanagar and Delhi Ridge received 1.7 mm and 38.6 mm respectively. Skymet Weather agency also stated that the humid southwesterly winds continue to blow over Delhi and the NCR region as the axis of monsoon trough is running south of its normal position and temperatures are also on the higher side. On Monday, Delhi received heavy rainfall that led to waterlogging on several arterial roads, disrupting the traffic flow at various intersections. According to a MeT official, “Heavy rainfall is expected in various areas in the city during the day. The maximum temperature will settle around 35 degrees Celsius.”
During the morning hours on Monday, the city was humid, taking the minimum temperature two notches below normal at 25 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 28.6 degrees Celsius.
