New Delhi: In a significant development, the Delhi Police on Monday arrested suspended AAP councillor Tahir Hussain’s brother Shah Alam in connection with the violence in northeast Delhi last month. Police said that three other people have also been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly sheltering Alam. The arrest of Alam was done after his name surfaced during the investigation into the case. The development comes after Hussain was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday after a court dismissed his plea seeking to surrender before it. He was accused of killing of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official Ankit Sharma during the violence in northeast Delhi. Earlier, the Delhi had court sent Hussain to 7-day police custody in connection with the case. The Karkardooma Court had earlier rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the suspended AAP leader, observing that nobody had appeared from the accused side.
The action against Hussian was taken after the deceased’s father, Ravinder Kumar, on whose complaint the FIR was lodged, named the AAP leader as an accused.
In the violence, over 53 people, including Ankit Sharma and police head constable Rattan Lal, were killed that sent shockwaves across the country.
