New Delhi: In a recent video that went viral on social media platforms, a man in his twenties was seen lying brutally injured on the ground as policeman made him along with four others sing the national anthem and Vande Mataram. The video has been widely circulated amid the nearly week-long violence that erupted in the northeast regions of Delhi. According to a report by The Indian Express, the video was recorded on Monday evening when police forces were deployed in the riot-hit areas to control the situation. In the video, five men including Faizan, a resident of Kardampuri in northeast Delhi, were seen lying partially unconscious on the ground while some policemen could be seen surrounding them with lathis. Pointing the lathi at their faces, policemen could be heard saying “Acchi tarah gaa (sing well)”. His family claimed that Faizan was standing near a mosque when the police fired teargas shells in the area, The Indian Express report stated. He and some other men were caught by the police and beaten with iron rods. Faizan’s legs were broken and his body had turned blue-black due to the beatings.
Faizan was taken to the neurosurgery ward of LNJP hospital with fractures and gunshot wounds and died of his injuries on Thursday morning.
