New Delhi: Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday blamed the Centre as well as the Delhi government for the violence that has rocked the northeast Delhi for the past three days, where so far, 20 people have been reported dead. Gandhi also demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the law and order situation in the national capital. “CM& Delhi Govt is equally responsible for not activating the administration to reach out to the people to maintain peace&harmony. It is the collective failure of both governments that have resulted in a great tragedy in the capital city,” said Sonia Gandhi while addressing a press briefing. Calling Delhi violence a result of a “conspiracy”, Gandhi targeted BJP leaders for creating an atmosphere of fear and hatred.
“There is a conspiracy behind the violence, country also saw this during Delhi elections. Many BJP leaders made inciting comments creating an atmosphere of fear and hatred,” said Sonia Gandhi.
Gandhi also criticised for “remaining paralysed” during the riot-like situation in northeast Delhi. “Police has remained paralysed in the last 72 hrs-around 18 lives have been lost so far, including a head constable,&hundreds are in hospital, many with gunshot injuries. Violence continues unabated on the streets of North East Delhi,” said Gandhi.
The death toll in the riots that rocked the national capital in the past three days has risen to 20. Over 180 people are known to be injured during the clashes. The Delhi Police has also been given shoot-at-sight orders.
