New Delhi: After reports of the event being called off, Carnatic musician TM Krishna‘s concert would be held in New Delhi after all, said media reports on Friday. Making the announcement, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said no artist should ever be denied an opportunity to perform. The AAP government had offered to hold Krishna’s concert in the national capital after an event in which he was to perform was called off by Airports Authority of India (AAI).
“No artist should ever be denied an opportunity to perform. I have invited TM Krishna to perform on November 17 for the people of Delhi. It’s important to maintain the dignity of the Art and Artists,” Sisodia tweeted. The concert will now be held at the Garden of Five Senses in Saidul Ajaib Village in Saket.
On Friday, the AAI had cited “some urgent engagements” and said that new dates would be announced shortly. “We would like to inform that due to some urgent engagements, ‘Dance and Music in the Park’ programme jointly organised by AAI and SPICMACAY, scheduled on 17 and 18 November has been postponed and new dates would be announced shortly. Inconvenience regretted,” it said in a statement.
On November 10, the AAI had announced that Krishna will be performing at the event in a tweet. Advertisements also appeared in some newspapers in the city. However, on Tuesday night, the AAI informed SPIC-MACAY over email that the concert was called off.
According to a report in The Indian Express, AAI Chairperson Guruprasad Mohapatra denied reports that the event was postponed because of the trolling it received for inviting Krishna.
