New Delhi, Feb 22: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that army has taken control of Munak Canal in Haryana which is the key source of water to Delhi. Kejriwal took to Twitter saying that the government is now trying to assess the time required for water to reach Delhi and if any damage has been done to the water source. Earlier in the morning he had tweeted urging the Centre to take control of the canal and said that the national capital had run out of water. Considering the situation of Delhi, Kejriwal on Saturday spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured him that the army will take control of the Munak Canal.
Following the issue of Jat reservation in Haryana, protesters in the state stopped water supply to Delhi, thus crippling life in the national capital. Delhiities were severely affected as water supply to major places were cut off. Army and para-military personnel were also called in eight districts of Haryana ro bring the situation under control One person was killed and 21 injured in a police station as the protest turned violent. Currently the state is relying on 700 water tanks which has been send to different parts of Delhi. However, it is not likely to prove sufficient for the vast region. Reportedly, capital will be left with no more if Munak canal was not opened again.
