New Delhi: Congress leader and former Karnataka Minister TB Jayachandra on Friday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over demonetisation and said that if PM had any self-respect, he would quit and go. Talking to ANI, he said, “Prime Minister Modi had said (during demonetization) that give me 15 days or you can burn me alive. Now the time has come to do exactly that. If he has any self-respect then he should quit and go.”
Earlier in the day, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had questioned the BJP government on why no black money-holder was seen in the queues during demonetisation. “All of you were standing in long queues during #Demonetisation but not one black money-holder was seen. Also, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Lalit Modi, and Mehul Choksi ran away from the country with your money,” Rahul had said.
Hitting back at Rahul, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra said, “Today, Rahul Ji in Chhattisgarh asked, ‘did anyone saw any rich black money-holder get out of a big car and stand in the line during #Demonetisation’? Would like to tell him, ‘Yes, we saw you get out of your 4 crore car and stand in line’.”
Congress workers also staged a dharna at Civil Lines in Rajasthan Capital on Friday to protest against demonetisation on its second anniversary. Last year, too, the Congress and other Opposition parties had protested at various places across India against the Central government’s drive.
On November 8, 2016, the Centre had declared Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes as non-legal and introduced new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes. Since then, various Opposition leaders have highly criticised the move.
