Chennai, Aug 1: A DMK worker allegedly punched and slapped the employees of a restaurant which denied him food since it was closed for the day. The incident took place on Sunday night in Virugambakkam area. The incident video has gone viral on Wednesday. In the video, two DMK workers can be seen hitting the restaurant employees. Hotel staff said that the group demanded food despite being told that the restaurant was closed for the day. A case has been registered against the accused DMK member, Yuvaraj and his other accomplices, said a senior police officer. DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan also announced the ‘suspension’ of the other accused, Divakar, for “violating party discipline and “bringing disrepute”. They were being suspended from the party’s primary membership, said Anbazhagan in a statement. Moreover, MK Stalin had expressed that the actions of the two party members were “strongly condemnable.” In a tweet, Stalin said, “Strong action will be taken against anyone bringing disrepute to the party.”
On Sunday, thousands of DMK workers had gathered outside the Kauvery hospital as party DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s health took a turn for worse. The 94-year-old veteran politician was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) on Saturday after his blood pressure dropped. He had suffered a transient setback on Sunday.
