New Delhi, June 25: Upset of having a baby girl for the sixth time in a row, a man stabbed his four-day-old baby girl with a knife. The incident took place in Moti Masang village, close to Rakhial in Dehgam near Gandhinagar. According to sources, the man identified as Vishnu Rathod, and his wife Vimla (30) live in Amrapur village. Married for last 10 years, the couple has five daughters. Vimla on Wednesday gave birth to a girl at her parents’. Her family members informed Rathod about the birth. However, he did not immediately come to see the mother and child. On Sunday, Rathod reached Vimla’s home and entered the room and stabbed the infant thrice with a knife. The infant was immediately rushed to the hospital. A doctor at the Civil Hospital said that the baby was brought to us in a severe condition but she succumbed to her injury. According to DNA reports, the maternal grandfather of the baby said that the accused tried to run away but my daughter and others created a commotion and the neighbours managed to nab him. Campaigns like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have started but still, there is a need for more effective schemes and campaigns to mobilize people and the same will get every girl child a rightful place in society and more opportunities to grow.
