Dhule, July 8: The prime accused in the mob- which lynched five men in Maharashtra’s Dhule district over suspicion of being child-lifters has been arrested, news agency ANI reported on Sunday. The key accused has been identified as Dasrath Pawar. With this arrest, a total of 26 people have been taken in the police custody, in connection with the case.
On July 2, 23 people were arrested in the case. The incident had taken place at Rainpada, 25 kilometers from Pimpalner in Dhule at around 11.30 AM on July 1. The five, along with a few others, were seen getting down from a state transport bus in the tribal Rainpada hamlet, police said. When one of them apparently tried to speak to a girl child, villagers, who had gathered for the weekly Sunday bazaar, pounced on them, they added.
“Five were killed in the mob fury,” police said. According to police, there were rumours for the last few days that a gang of child lifters was active in the area. The bodies are being taken to the nearby Pimpalner hospital, they added.
“Twenty-three people have been arrested. We have also identified some more accused in this case. Five teams have been formed to identify the accused,” Dhule SP M Ramkumar told ANI. The officer said that they have collected videos and photographs of the incident from people to identify more accused, reported DNA.
