Nashik, April 25: The Sai Baba temple in Shirdi, that is a regular pilgrimage of the deity’s devotees, has attracted people from all over the world. Devotees swear by the deity’s powers to fulfill any wish that they make while in the temple, and hence do not hesitate in making generous donations to the temple. But just how generously people offer gifts to the deity, can be proved by the diamonds that have been found from the donation boxes of the temple. Yes, you read it right. Diamonds!
According to a report in the Times of India, the office bearers of the temple, were shocked when they found two diamond necklaces worth Rs. 92 Lakhs in the donation boxes of the temple! According to the report, this is the first time that jewellery items worth such a whopping amount have been found in the donation boxes, although the temple staff is used to finding gold and silver valuables in them, every now and then. Large donations are always made directly to the trustees. Also Read: Diamond pendant worth Rs 90 lakh donated to Saibaba temple
But this is not all. The temple coffers have been getting filled with valuables worth obscene amounts of money. Dilip Zirpe, head of the temple’s accounts department told TOI, “Between April 1 last year and March 31 this year, devotees donated 223 diamonds, gems and pearls to Sai Baba. The total cost of these valuables was Rs 1.06 crore. However, the two diamond necklaces are alone worth Rs 92 lakh.” Zirpe said that the boxes were opened on April 21 and the valuation was done two days ago. “As per tradition, we do a valuation of the donations through registered evaluators twice a year”, he said.
