Bengaluru, Mar 20: Mother of Divya Spandana aka Ramya, who heads the Social Media and Digital Communications wing of the Congress, has warned the party that she will contest as an independent candidate in Karnataka Assembly elections if the ticket is not given to her. She also demanded a suitable post in the Congress party for her daughter Ramya. Ramya’s mother Ranjitha wants Assembly ticket for herself from Mandya constituency. “I want to fight from Mandya. I request the Congress high command to give me ticket this time. If they don’t, I’m even ready to try my luck as an independent candidate,” she warned, as reported by a news portal. Ranjitha said she is upset as even after 28 years of service to the party it had not given her anything. Demanding a higher position in the Congress for her daughter Ramya, she said, “It is true that she heads AICC social media cell in New Delhi. It is an important post. But the people of Mandya don’t understand all that. They will understand only if the party high command gives her an important post in the party, which will help her to do something for the people of Mandya. She should get something much better.” Also Read - Rajasthan Congress MLA Gajendra Singh Shaktawat Dies at 48

Ramya, who is credited with energising the social media engagements of the Congress by taking on the mighty digital force of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), refused to comment on her mother’s demands. Her mother was earlier close to former union minister SM Krishna, who also hails from Mandya. After Krishna quit the Congress to join the BJP, Ramya and her mother stayed back in the party.

Ramya had won Lok Sabha by-poll from Mandya constituency in 2013. However, she lost the seat in 2014 Lok Sabha elections to JDS candidate CS Puttaraju by a slender margin of 5000 votes.
