Earlier on Monday, rift within the party came to the fore as Alagiri claimed that real cadres are standing in his support and not in his brother’s (Stalin). He also accused Stalin of blocking his return into the DMK and selling party posts, saying that he is pained by what is happening inside the party. “My father’s true relatives are all on my side. All the supporters in Tamil Nadu are on my side and are encouraging me only. Only time will give the answers…that is all I am willing to say now,” Alagiri said while paying homage to Karunanidhi at his memorial at the Marina Beach. Addressing the reporters, he also accused Stalin of not working even after being the working president of the party.
However, the DMK on Monday refused to comment on Alagiri’s statement against MK Stalin. TKK Elangovan, the Organisation Secretary of DMK, claimed that reacting to what Alagiri’s claim is a waste of time.
It may be recalled that Stalin was elevated as DMK working president last January.
Since then he has been at the helm of the party affairs as Karunanidhi was ill since October 2016. Stalin was party treasurer at the time of his elevation.
