New Delhi:  The Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) flyway was shut on Friday evening as a huge mass of farmers took out a rally. The farmers are demanding fourfold compensation in lieu of their land acquisition. Vehicular movement on the route was seen crawling.  Several commuters shared their agony on social media. Reportedly earlier in the day, the Delhi Traffic Police had issued an alert saying that there could be a diversion of the route.

There could be diversions made on the route as per requirement, the Noida Traffic Police said in a statement. “People are advised to use alternate roads via Mayur Vihar and Kalindi Kunj for movement between Noida and Delhi to avoid inconvenience,” it said in an advisory.

The Delhi Traffic Police had cautioned the people against using the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) route.  “Due to the proposed rally by farmers traffic from Noida via DND is likely to be affected after 2.00 pm,” Alok Kumar Joint CP, (traffic) told to PTI.

Earlier in the day, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was announced by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal. As per the scheme, the Rs 6,000 would be disbursed in three instalments and would be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts.

“This initiative will benefit 12 crore small and marginal farmers, at an estimated cost of Rs 75,000 crore, this will enable farmers to earn a respectable living,” Goyal had said.

Apart from this sum, another Rs 20,000 crore has been set aside in the revised estimates for the current year 2018-19.

Goyal had said all farmers will get Kisan Credit Cards. For the welfare of farmers and for doubling their income, Goyal said, “a historic decision was taken to increase MSP by 1.5 times the production cost for all 22 crops”.

Later, dismissing all naysayers, Goyal had said, “Those sitting in AC rooms cannot understand the plight of the small farmers. Keeping this in mind, we have introduced Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. This is a historic decision.”
