Mandsaur: A 30-second video of a senior college professor touching the feet of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists in Mandsaur’s Rajiv Gandhi PG College after they called him anti-national and asked him to apologise for asking them to stop raising slogans outside the classroom.
As per reports, students alleged that were stopped by the professor from raising slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. However, Principal of Mandsaur’s Rajiv Gandhi PG College Ravindra Sohni said that nothing as such happened and that the professor only stopped from raising any slogans. Sohni said the ABVP activists even asked the senior teacher to apologise.
Govt Rajiv Gandhi PG College Principal RK Sohni said Dinesh Gupta was teaching Wednesday when he heard ABVP activists raising slogans. The activists were on their way to submit a memorandum to the principal to protest the delay in announcement of results of BSc fourth semester exams. Dr Gupta told them not to raise slogans as he was facing difficulty teaching due to the noise.
The activists thereafter called him an “anti-national” because he stopped them from saying Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. They allegedly threatened to file a police complaint about his behaviour and made him apologise.
Dr Gupta is apparently upset over the developments and has applied for a three-day leave because he felt humiliated.
Showing neither remorse nor guilt, ABVP activist Pawan Sharma said that Dr Gupta could have stopped the class for a while and let them pass. Sharma said, “He could have stopped the class and let us pass.” He further called Dr Gupta’s act of touching students’ feet was a publicity stunt. Sharma and other ABVP activists denied that they made Dr Gupta apologise. They, however, were of the same opinion but insisted that it was their right to raise patriotic slogans and anyone who stopped would be labelled as ‘unpatriotic’.
Mandsaur MLA Yashpal Sisodiya, on the other hand, said the incident was not as big as it was being made out to be.
