5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Parts of Assam, Tremors Felt in Bihar Too

Earlier today, low-intensity earthquakes hit Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana's Jhajjar, where no damage or casualty was reported.

New Delhi: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake hit parts of Assam on Wednesday. Earthquake tremors were also felt in Bihar’s Kishanganj, Sahebganj and Hazaribagh. No damage or casualty has been reported as of now.

Epicentred in Kokrajhar, tremors were also felt in Jharkhand and West Bengal’s Kolkata and Siliguri.

Earlier today, two low-intensity earthquakes of magnitude 4.6 and 3.1 hit Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana’s Jhajjar respectively.

An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 occurred at 5.43 am in Jhajjar, Haryana while an earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale occurred at 5.15 am in Jammu and Kashmir.

Today earthquake in Jhajjar was the third in the last four days.

On Monday, a medium-intensity earthquake hit Jhajjar. Another medium-intensity earthquake had hit the same location Sunday.

The Himalayan region, the northeast and the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago fall in Zone V of the seismic map of the country and these areas record a high number of seismic activities.
