A major earthquake rattled various parts of North India with the epicentre in Nepal on Saturday afternoon. Places including Delhi, Jaipur, Ranchi, Uttar Pradesh and Nepal experienced the natural disaster. The earthquake was of 7.5 magnitude on Richter scale lasting upto 60 seconds in various parts. Services of the Metro in Delhi and Kolkata were temporarily halted. There was a lot of panic following the tremors but no damage has been reported so far. A resident of Jaipur said, “Although the quake was not high, it lasted for a little long time.” ANI tweeted that according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, Epicenter was 83 km NW of Kathmandu, Nepal, measured 7.4 on Richter scale. It has been reported that Kathmandu Valley in Nepal has been devastated following the earthquake with numerous buildings collapsing. Mobile phone services are affected in Nepal and Patna. “Earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred today at 11.41 AM between latitude 28.1 North and Longitude 84.6 East. The epicentre was located in Nepal,” an IMD statement said.

Talking about the earthquake, India Meteorological Department Director, Gautam said, “It was a major quake of 7.5 magnitude.” The US Geological Survey says it expects heavy damage in Nepal.
