New Delhi, Mar 13: A 28-year-old mother-of-two jumped off a first-floor apartment in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar in an attempt to escape five men who allegedly abducted and gang-raped her on Saturday. Delhi police have arrested five men who claim that they brought the woman for “paid sex” at a Holi party.
“Allegedly to save herself after being gang-raped by five men, a 28-year-old divorcee and mother-of-two leapt from the first floor of a rented accommodation in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Sunday morning,” an officer said.
Police on Sunday arrested five accused and are currently questioning them regarding the case. All the five men are reportedly in their 20s. As per the reports, three of them work in a Noida-based BPO, while another is an engineer employed with a top IT services firm. The fifth accused was allegedly known to the Napali woman.
The woman reported the matter to police at around 5.30 am. As per the police, they had received a call in the early hours of Sunday. “We had received a PCR call that a woman had jumped from a flat located in East Pandav Nagar and was injured. We sent in a police team and an ERV (emergency response vehicle) was deputed to the spot. The woman, a mother of two, was found and was shifted to LBS Hospital, where she is being treated for her leg injuries,” said police.
A DEAL GONE WRONG?
Police are also probing if the case is a matter of a deal gone wrong. The police have also claimed that since the time she gave her statement, the victim has changed her statement twice. “Since then, she has changed her statement twice and is unable to narrate the exact sequence of events,” a senior officer said. “We are investigating the case from all angles and all five accused have been sent to judicial custody.”
The police are also questioning the woman. As per the reports, the police have also conducted medical tests on the woman to ascertain her claims.
WHAT HAPPENED
While questioning, the woman had told the police that one of the accused picked her up at around 11 pm on Saturday on the pretext of dropping her to her residence in Munirka but brought her to a friend’s house in Pandav Nagar where five of them raped her, taking turns.
As per the victim, the men made her consume alcohol and when she got intoxicated, they locked the flat from inside and raped her. They also allegedly threatened to harm her if she raised an alarm or attempted to escape from the flat.
Around 5.30 am the woman managed to reach the balcony and jumped off the first floor. She alerted some passersby and the police. Following which, she was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and a medical examination confirmed rape.
“When cops interrogated all the accused, they claimed they knew the woman was into prostitution. On Saturday night, they called her to their house in Pandav Nagar to have paid sex for `5,000 during a house party. Once the deal was fixed, one of them – who already knew her – went to pick her. But there was a dispute over money and she jumped off the building and called the police,” an office said.
The cops are trying to get CCTV footage. As per the police, the woman is unemployed and lives with her two children.
