The Election Commission of India announced the dates of assembly elections in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. The five-phase polling in both the states will begin from November 25 while the results will be declared on December 23. The Jharkhand state will have 24,648 polling stations while in Jammu and Kashmir 10,015 polling stations will be placed. The option of NOTA and VVAPT (voter-verified paper audit trail) will also be there. The model code of conduct has come into the effect and will be valid for the state government and central schemes in poll bound states.

Notification for Phase 1 in Jharkhand will be issued on November 29 and it will be on November 28 for Jammu and Kashmir. The term of 81-member Jharkhand assembly expires on January 3, 2015 while the term of the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly ends on January 19, 2015.
