New Delhi, April 20: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) was conspiring with the Centre to destabilise the Delhi government, said media reports. This comes just a day after the party alleged that Lt Governor Anil Baijal was running a parallel government in the state.
Addressing media, AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the EC was biased in its approach towards AAP. Referring to the recent comment of former legal advisor to the EC SK Mendiratta that his opinion wasn’t taken before the disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs for holding offices of profit, Bharadwaj said, “Now it’s confirmed that the EC is biased.”
He went on to add that the election commissioner during whose tenure AAP MLAs were disqualified was close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter was the Gujarat Chief Minister. “EC conspiring with the PM is a dangerous sign,” he said.
The fresh attack comes just a few days after the Centre sacked nine advisors to the Delhi government on the ground that these posts were not sanctioned. The action was taken by Baijal on recommendations of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s adviser was among those sacked. In retaliation, Raghav Chadha, who had been sacked, sent a demand draft of Rs 2.50 to Home Minister Rajnath Singh as refund of the salary he drew in his position as an adviser. He claimed that he had begun working for the government on an honorarium of Re 1 when he started out, which had risen to Rs 2.50 over the years.
